Sertig Waterfall (Ducan Waterfall): The Complete Visitor’s Guide

Sertig Waterfall (Ducan Waterfall): The Complete Visitor’s Guide

Sertig Waterfall (AKA Ducan Waterfall) is a lesser-known yet spectacular waterfall in the Davos Klosters region of Switzerland. In this short and snappy guide, we’ll succinctly cover all of the main details you need to know to go and chase this waterfall.

Sertig Waterfall (AKA Ducan Waterfall)

Sertig Waterfall (Sertig Wasserfall) is a three-tier 30 metre waterfall found in Sertig Valley. Aside from the sensational waterfall, the valley is absolutely beautiful.

By doing a short hike, you can easily visit this waterfall. Beck and I really enjoyed this experience and highly recommend it!

Sertig Waterfall Hike Details

Overall, the hike is very easy, with a simple 3km out-and-back route to the waterfall from the Walserhuss Sertig Car Park.

Sertig Waterfall Map

On Google Maps, the waterfall is referred to as Ducan-Wasserfall.

Navigating the hike is straightforward, but feel free to use this AllTrails map to help familiarise yourself.

How to Get There (Directions)

It’s possible to access the trailhead of the Sertig Waterfall Hike by public transport or by driving.

Regarding public transport, the 308 bus runs from Davos Platz to Walserhuus Sertig, where the hike starts. This bus journey takes around 25–30 minutes.

To help plan your journey and for more information on departure times and costs, head to the bus’s website (PostAuto) or use the SBB mobile app.

Sertig Waterfall Parking

Otherwise, you can simply drive to and park at the Walserhuus Sertig Car Park. Having hired a car from Zurich Airport for our Davos hiking trip, we parked here.

Use the EasyPark app to pay for parking.

Car Hire

DiscoverCars.com

If you don’t have your own car, you should hire one using Discover Cars. Personally, we use Discover Cars and highly recommend them for finding your ideal car hire at an affordable price. Booking online is super easy and the free cancellation policy is great.

To find out more about renting a car with Discover Cars, read our Discover Cars review and Discover Cars Insurance review.

Our Experience Chasing This Waterfall

Now that you’re sorted on all the logistics, let’s look at the hike itself. Below, we’ll briefly retell our experience doing the Sertig Waterfall Hike, highlighting the main points of interest.

The area serves as a military training ground for the Swiss Armed Forces. Before visiting, check the Shooting Range Bulletin on the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) website within 10 days of visiting to ensure the area isn’t closed for military training. Specifically, use the map to identify if the area is closed.

Sertigerstrasse

Before arriving at the trailhead, whether by bus or car, you’ll drive along the majestic Sertigerstrasse (Sertig Street). This street leads you through Sertig Valley and to the charming village of Sertig Dorfli.

You’ll then continue a little further south to reach Sand (AKA Sertig Sand), a small hamlet in the valley. This is where the hike starts.

Essentially, from the Walserhuus Sertig Car Park, you’ll join a gravel trail, heading further into the majestic Sertig Valley. Almost immediately, you’ll pass the ‘Davos Logo’, a great spot for a photo!

Sertig Valley

Soon enough, you’ll walk alongside a quaint riverstream called Sertigbach. After 600 metres or so, there is a trail intersection. You’ll take the trail veering right to continue towards Sertig Waterfall. Along this trail, you’ll now follow the riverstream of Ducanbach, which is fed by the waterfall.

Sertig Waterfall

After passing by a serene forest, you’ll soon hear the waterfall as you approach nearer. Before you know it, the stunning waterfall comes into view. From a distance, some of the waterfall will remain obstructed. To get a good look at the lower tiers of the waterfall, you’ll need to get right up close.

Beck and I were blown away by the waterfall’s beauty and the immensity of the valley itself. After nearing the base of the lowest tier, we decided to fly the drone to better capture Sertig Waterfall in its entirety. To check out drone footage of the waterfall, feel free to watch our Davos Hiking YouTube video (coming soon).

Sertig Dorfli

Once you’ve explored the waterfall, you’ll simply retrace your steps to complete the walk!

Before heading off, we recommend spending more time in the gorgeous valley. Why not grab a bite to eat at Walserhuus Sertig? Otherwise, you could either drive to or walk to Sertig Dorfli and head to Restaurant Bergfuhrer.

Personally, we already had some snacks with us. So, on the return walk, we sat on a bench by the stream, marvellously placed in the valley, to chill out and refuel.

We intended to stop in at Restaurant Bergfuhrer afterwards to spend some time relaxing in Sertig Dorfli. Unfortunately, it was closed when we visited.

Best Time to Visit

It’s best to do the Sertig Waterfall Hike outside of winter, as the waterfall can freeze over during the colder months. Of course, if you want to ice climb the waterfall, you’ll definitely want to visit in winter!

Where to Stay Nearby

Most people exploring the Davos Klosters area will stay in Davos, as it offers many more accommodation options compared with Klosters. Also, given that Beck had a work event in Davos, it made sense for us to stay in that area.

Where We Stayed: Solaria

Beck and I stayed in Solaria, a quiet neighbouring town of Davos Dorf. That way, we avoided staying in the more built-up and busier hub of Davos Dorf. Solaria certainly boasts a more scenic location.

We had an enjoyable stay at Serviced Apartments by Solaria. Given how expensive Switzerland is, we wanted to stay in an apartment so we could do our own cooking. This self-catering apartment featured a spacious kitchen and dining area. It was certainly a fantastic base for our time hiking in the Davos Klosters area.
