Who we share your data with

We use Google Analytics to analyse data and statistics about how users engage with our website. This allows to identify what our users like, so we can produce the best content possible and improve the overall user experience. For instance, Google Analytics may tell us what pages were viewed the most. Hence, we will look at what type of content was on that page and then reproduce similar content. As aforementioned, we use Mailchimp for our newsletters which store your name and email address in order to reach you. We do not share our mailing list with any third parties. We use an app called Social Warfare which allows you to easily share our content on your social media. We do not take any personal information from you regarding your social media accounts nor do we monitor what happens after you share a post via our website. Hence, we are not responsible or liable for any potential consequences from sharing our website’s content on your social media feeds. User comments will be checked through Akismet; an automated spam detection service to control spam comments. This ensures you have a safe environment on to comment. Akismet is a plugin of Automattic Inc. Please read their Privacy Policy.

How long we retain your data

By default, WordPress; the website’s content management software generates 2 types of cookies that have different retention times. Session cookies are set when a user logs into a WordPress site such as and contains a user’s authentication details. Cookies are set up to save login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for 15 days and screen options cookies last for 1 year.

Cookies related to comments contain information about a person’s username, email address and IP address. Hence, those who have left a comment will have this information automatically filled in the relevant fields on subsequent visits. The comment cookie expires in around 347 days. However, if you leave a comment on, the comment and its other metadata will be retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold in regard to you, including any data you have voluntarily provided to us. You can also request that we delete this information. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.

Mailchimp will retain personal information where there is ongoing legitimate business or legal need to do so. When there is no ongoing legitimate business, they will either delete or anonymise it. Read their Privacy Policy for more information.

Data protection uses commercially appropriate and acceptable processes to ensure the security of the personal data you have provided to us and the information we collect automatically. Our measures include using standard security protocols and only working with reputable third parties.

We have installed a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate. Hence, some of the information you may enter on our website may be transmitted securely through this secure medium.

For website security, the company uses software programs including, but not limited to, Jetpack which assists us in monitoring website traffic to help us identify, and hopefully prevent any illegal activity and/or unauthorised attempts to alter information or otherwise cause damage. The GDPR introduced a duty for us to report, in the event of, certain types of personal data breach to the relevant supervisory authority. In the unfortunate event that there is a data breach, there is no single method of responding as they are dealt with by on a case by case basis.

Depending on the nature of the data breach, in any case, we will attempt to the best of our ability to contain the breach and assess the risks associated with the breach. Using that risk assessment, we will decide the appropriate course of action which may involve considering a breach notification to be completed within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach. Reviewing the incident and taking steps to nullify future breaches will also take place.

Users’ General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) rights – WP Google Maps

You agree for your personal data to be processed by Travel Made Me Do It, for the purpose(s) of displaying map tiles, geocoding addresses and calculating and display directions..

You agree for your personal data, provided via map API calls, to be processed by the API provider, for the purposes of geocoding (converting addresses to coordinates), reverse geocoding and generating directions.

Some visual components of WP Google Maps use 3rd party libraries which are loaded over the network. At present the libraries are Google Maps, Open Street Map, jQuery DataTables and FontAwesome. When loading resources over a network, the 3rd party server will receive your IP address and User Agent string amongst other details. Please refer to the Privacy Policy of the respective libraries for details on how they use data and the process to exercise your rights under the GDPR regulations.

WP Google Maps uses jQuery DataTables to display sortable, searchable tables, such as that seen in the Advanced Marker Listing and on the Map Edit Page. jQuery DataTables in certain circumstances uses a cookie to save and later recall the “state” of a given table – that is, the search term, sort column and order and current page. This data is held in local storage and retained until this is cleared manually. No libraries used by WP Google Maps transmit this information.
