Pizzuta Beach Is One of Sicily’s Best Hidden Beaches

Pizzuta Beach Is One of Sicily’s Best Hidden Beaches

Pizzuta Beach (Spiaggia della Pizzuta) is hands-down one of the best beaches in Sicily. Better yet, it’s hidden and barely known. So, while all the tourists are crowding out Cefalu Beach, Modello Beach and Spiagga San Vito lo Capo, you can enjoy a relaxing and quiet experience visiting the equally impressive Pizzuta Beach.

Where Is Pizzuta Beach?

Pizzuta Beach is located near Avola and Noto in the southeast corner of Sicily. The beach is located just north of the Vendicari Nature Reserve. From Syracuse (Siracusa), it takes around 35 minutes to drive to the beach.

How to Get There

By far, the easiest way to get to Pizzuta Beach is to drive there. So, we recommend hiring a car. We did so from Catania International Airport and drove to this beach during one of our day trips exploring southeast Sicily.

Car Hire

If you don’t have your own car, you should hire one using Discover Cars. Personally, we use Discover Cars and highly recommend them for finding your ideal car hire at an affordable price. Booking online is super easy and the free cancellation policy is great.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any public transport options to the beach. If you’re not driving, your best bet is to get a bus (Interbus) from Syracuse to Noto. From Noto, you could get a taxi to the beach’s car park (approx. 15 minutes), or, to Noto Marina – the nearest town, and then walk from there (approx. 1.2km).

Pizzuta Beach Parking

There is quite a large unsealed car park located here. Parking is free. From the car park, it’s a short 5–10 minute walk to the beach.

The Walk to Pizzuta Beach

From the car park, you’ll follow a path, veering left. Soon, you’ll arrive at some buildings surrounded by a fence. Turn right and then left to follow alongside the fence towards the coast. Then, you’ll arrive at an open grassy expanse. From there, you can just about see the beach in the distance. Follow one of the many trails towards the southern end of the beach to access it.

Pizzuta Beach

After doing this short walk, you’ll have arrived at one of Sicily’s best-kept secrets when it comes to golden sand beaches. Renowned for its pebble beaches, Pizzuta Beach bucks the trend, featuring pristine golden sand. Sure, other beaches in Sicily are just as beautiful. But, the best beaches in Sicily are often crowded, noisy and occupied by beach clubs and lidos.

Thankfully, Pizzuta Beach doesn’t have any beach clubs or lidos. Given the beach is somewhat hidden, not many tourists know about this spot. And sure, locals visit, but not in abundance. Even in summer on the weekend, you should enjoy a fairly uncrowded golden sand beach for free – a rarity in Sicily.

The Extra Coastal Walk

From the southern end of the beach, you can follow a short yet delightful coastal path. Eventually, you’ll reach a platform, with extensive views towards Eloro Beach in the Vendicari Nature Reserve.

Is Pizzuta Beach Worth Visiting?

Pizzuta Beach is definitely worth visiting if you enjoy visiting quiet sandy beaches. Other than experiencing an uncrowded beach atmosphere, another important point to make is that the beach is equally impressive compared to the other beaches just south of it in the Vendicari Nature Reserve. The difference is, that you have to pay €3.50 per person to enter that nature reserve.

So, you can visit Pizzuta Beach, which is just as nice as the other beaches in the Vendicari Nature Reserve, for free.

Vendicari Nature Reserve

Of course, if you’re visiting Pizzuta Beach and exploring the natural beauty of the southeast of Sicily, you should certainly still visit the Vendicari Nature Reserve. Beck and I enjoyed a splendid coastal walk at this nature reserve, filled with many other spectacular beaches.

Nearby Accommodation

Some people will visit Pizzuta Beach from Syracuse, which is a popular area to stay with plenty of accommodation options. Yet, the closest accommodation to the beach is in Noto Marina, where you’ll find excellent seaside accommodation.
