Seeing unique and different wildlife is very exciting. Exploring animals in a new environment can certainly be a special experience. Sometimes it is by chance. It may be that we’re on a hike. We will unexpectedly see an animal which we have never seen before. Other times, we may purposefully go on a wildlife tour. Our trip to Patagonia started in Ushuaia. There, we went on a boat tour taking us to Martillo Island where thousands of penguins live. Being able to walk among the many penguins was a surreal experience. Absolutely amazing! Read our Ultimate Ushuaia Hiking Itinerary to read more about it.
In contrast, we went to Bruny Island in Tasmania and didn’t do any specific wildlife tour. But it wasn’t long until we started a hike. We spotted a kangaroo. Not too long after, we saw a snake. Better yet, we saw a very rare species of wallaby. In fact, prior to going to Bruny Island, we had been told about the White Wallaby. Bruny Island was the only place in the world where this wildlife exists! We did a hike where they apparently live and didn’t see them. Subsequently we explored some more. They were no where to be seen. Then by luck, we spotted one! It was casually jumping across the road. We pulled over to have a closer look. What an astonishing creature. So you really have to be in it to win it. Therefore, we hope our guides can help you see some special wildlife for yourselves.
